Grammatical Accuracy for IELTS Writing Band 7

I have attempted IELTS 3 times in the last 6 months but failed to achieve 7 Band in writing. I practice as well with so many sample essays and proper connectors in every paragraph, but I'm unable to score 7 band yet.

Please assist me, what shall I do?

Hi Saad,

As I've often said on here it's quite common for people to find it difficult to get a writing band 7 because of the standards required for grammar.

The majority of sentences need to be grammatically correct and it requires very good writing skills to achieve that.

I've corrected the grammar in your post in this forum before I posted it, but there were quite a few grammar errors in there. For example you said "in last 6 months" and missed out "the".

Also you said "every paragraphs" instead of "every paragraph" (every is followed by singular noun).

And you said "...to score 7 band till yet" instead of just "yet" or "until now". There were other errors in there.

I know you may have written your post quickly so it may not be representative of your writing in the test, but if you are doing that in the test it will bring your grammatical accuracy score down.

What you wrote was easy to understand and they were not serious errors, but there were enough of them to mean you'd get 6 for your grammar rather than 7.

So it may well be that you need to improve your grammatical accuracy if you want to get a band 7.

That's obviously something that is quite difficult to do online. It's worth looking at grammar books (as they will explain things such as how to use 'every'). See for example:

But you may also need to get someone to check your work and give you feedback if you want to improve even faster.

You'd need someone who is prepared to highlight all your grammar errors, let you work out why they are wrong, then look at it again (process writing). That's the best way to fix grammar.

If you search online you may find people who can do that but ideally a personal face-to-face tutor would be better. Obviously that will cost you though.

I am a 7.5 IELTS band-holder. See, I did not put in any extra effort. In fact, I practiced literally not even once. But I guess for you, you can practice grammar and proper pronunciation.

Hi,
Recently, I got an IELTS result i.e. W 6.5, R.7, S.7 and L 7.5.
I have applied for a remark on my writing and am waiting. Is it possible to get .5 marks improve on my writing after Remark?

Don't expect to improve your score by .5 because the score you are given has already been checked very accurately a number of times, may be more than one expert is involved in the process of your writing assessment.

So I feel you should not be hopeful for the increment of the score.

Hello. It is possible.

My friend received almost the same scores as yours so she tried to have it checked again and she got an additional .5 on her writing just enough to make it a 7.

However, do not expect too much.

my Ilets score is L-8,R-7.5,S-7.5 W 6.5
i am confident that i can score 7 in writing.is it truly advisable to proceed further and spend the amount or should go for a retest

To score good in IELTS writing keep 6 things in mind:

A: To show that you are able to select relevant ideas and information to answer a question.
B : to show your understanding and knowledge of the subject.
C : to show your ability to presenting a logical argument
D : to show your skill in organising your idea systematically.
E : to show your ability to use sophisticated English.
F : to show your basic grasp of English grammar and vocabulary.

Understanding question ....a
Knowing the subject .........b
Thinking skills...................a & b
Language skills ................ e & f

Keep these in mind you would be able to write well to get good score
