Can anyone recommend IELTS teachers?

Hi there

I need to achieve 7.5 in IELTS but I only got 6.5 on my first attempt and 7 on my second.

It seems that my weakest parts are speaking and writing...and as I think now that I've done my best and this is still not enough...I'm considering a private teacher.

Could you please recommend website or else to look for good IELTS teachers?

Hi,

I needed to achieve a 7.5 to study Law in England this year so I was very stressed and didn't believe I could make it.
An older friend of mine recommended the teacher that helped me. I arrived in the UK two weeks ago and still talk to her via email.

When this student came to me a few days before her IELTS exam, she scored about 7 for her Speaking Test.

I then simply showed her how to use a wider range of discourse markers and connectives as well as how to use paraphrase effectively. We also worked on her using a fuller range of sentence structures. Her pronunciation was, fortunately, very good. The result was a super 8 band score.

I am a doctor, currently living in the UK and now waiting for getting registration in the UK.

As for my experience with him, I can only warn anyone reading this to avoid him at all costs. Not only did he cancel lessons just moments before they were due to start, but also he never refunded the money he owed me for cancelled lessons, and just stopped replying to emails, phone calls etc.

Andrew is one of these 'scam' teachers.

Still no reply to my emails, and still refuses to answer phone calls regarding the money he owes me. He demands money in advance and then doesn't turn up for lessons, on more than one occasion cancelling literally minutes before being due to start, after having begged for the money in advance the day before.

There are plenty of good tutors out there - Andrew isn't one of them. Avoid him like the plague.

 Importance of good handwriting and neatness

I and a friend of mine wrote IELTS two times and got only a score of 6.5. We went to a teacher and consulted our problem. He told us that we have to improve the handwriting. He has some handwriting improvement programs which he gave us. The result was that we could improve the handwriting and we avoided cancellation in the script. I got 7.5 and my friend got 7. I think you need a native speaker for IELTS. For example, I want to learn French, I want a Frenchman/woman! I want German... etc.

I had an Indian (no disrespect) who helped me for IELTS, but after a few lessons I realised that I was wasting my money and time. My Indian teacher was very good, but could not explain the nuances of the English language. He could not explain 'infamous'! He said it was "not famous". WRONG!!

So, my advice is.... use a native speaker!!!!

 Giving and Receiving Criticism

Indeed, teachers are allowed to make mistakes sometimes. As professionals, it's great to give and receive 'constructive criticism', not simply criticism.

Also, that's why I love helping students in an authentic way. I let my students know that any of us can make mistakes. That in itself does not mean we are failures.

Constructive criticism is always best, again, not simply criticism. It helps us to overcome obstacles in our learning and practice. It also empowers us to humbly continue, with more confidence, along the path of success - not letting criticism hinder us.

I studied with Neal through Skype and then in person when I traveled to Thailand. I could not get the 8s in Speaking and Writing. The highest bands were 7,5 time and again.

Did not study Reading and Listening as I got 8,5 and 9 for that several times.

Neal helped me to improve my scores for Writing and Speaking and I got 8s for these sections and 8,5s for Reading and Listening on my next and last attempt!

He also teaches other exam formats, like PTE Academic, but I don't recommend it since PTE is much harder than IELTS despite all the rumours about it.

Here is the story of a devoted Thai mother who helped her daughter, who has an English boyfriend living in England and needed band 8 to work as a doctor in the England.

IELTS, for those who never reach 7 in writing and reading, read here.
Just got the test result yesterday, listening 9 the rest 7.5, my daughter's result. It was the ninth test. I spent over 100k THB on 1500-2000 THB per hour at tutor schools on ads and 1 on 1 tutoring which excluded the test fee, travelling, and accommodation.

My poor daughter practiced every day. We live in Chonburi. Originally she was weak in listening and writing. On the 2nd test, she had chance to study with a teacher who helped her to lift her reading score from 6 to 7.5-8.5 and stable, except for writing that never reached 7. Like God's wish, the Thai teacher called and asked about the test result. Once he knew that she was struggling in writing, he gave me the WhatsApp contact of a teacher who used to help her to get 7 in reading. I contacted him directly, not costly like other teachers.

The teacher is an English guy who used to be an IELTS Examiner. Teaching through Skype, no need to travel, very convenient. I used to send my daughter's writing to this teacher and he told me she is never going to get Band 7, I didn't believe him and kept getting her to learn elsewhere. About the time that I was getting frustrated, the Thai teacher called again and my daughter asked him about teacher Neal and asked for his contact. She contacted him and he arranged a 23 hours writing course for her.

The course was at mutually agreed times over 7 days. Changing the whole writing style, according to Neal's comment that there is no need to be too detailed, Examiners can think. Right after the course, the next day, I took her to the test. She could not complete the writing part in time. The result was 6.0!!

I was shocked. However, it was right after the course, the next test should be able to tell if Neal's writing method is going to work the same way his reading method does. The result was released yesterday, she checked online and screamed. She came to me, hugged me and thanked me for all my support.

So I would like to tell those kids who haven't passed the test about how your parents wished to help you to pass it. Because when I needed help and asked questions on the Panthip website, there were kind people who answered and helped me, so I would like to share good things in return, without benefit, with the teacher himself. If anyone wants his contact, contact me and talk directly to the teacher and make arrangments with him. For reading, my daughter probably can give you some tips.

But for writing, you need to invest. It really really works, only the second test and reached 7.5 from 6.5 before. Neal also previously helped a Russian doctor to get Band 8, so could become a doctor in England. Thanks for reading.

 Just passed with Mr Lee!!!

Finally, after taking IELTS many times, I have now passed my writing test after following the advice of a teacher I found on this site.

His name is Lee (Lee Murray) and he helped to score band 7.5 in my academic writing test and now I can register to be a doctor in the UK.

I definitely recommend him to you guys as his lessons were really good. I struggled to pass for a long time but with him I passed first time.

I strongly recommend "LEE MURRAY". He is a former IELTS examiner from the UK, but you can take your lessons online no matter where you live. Lee spots your needs and gives all the tips and information you need. I had problems in reading and writing and after taking 3 unsuccessful exams I found Lee. In only six lessons he taught me very useful strategies and tips that I could get my desired score.

Just send him an email and generally, he responds so quickly. Also, he offers a free consultation online session that you can discuss your situation and needs, and personally, this session helped me a lot.

I have never met a tutor like him, I got 7.5 in writing in first attempt with only 2 months constant practice. He put efforts on each student individually according to their capability.
