Academic vs general for Band 8

Hi,

I need to score an 8 in writing to be eligible to immigrate to Australia.

I've already scored 7 in the academic writing test (for the skills assessment) and am now wondering if there is a difference in marking criteria for the general and academic test.

For example is the general test maybe a bit more lenient?

It's not more lenient as the band descriptors are more or less the same.

However, it may be possible to get a better score in IELTS General Training because sometimes the essay question is a bit easier and also you have to do a letter rather than a graph for Task 1, which is easier.
